Tre sedie Re-al di Colos su una valle innevata.

How the Re‑al chair came about: interview with Jun Yasumoto

The Re-al chair represents a synthesis of the search for balance between form, function and sustainability. This is according to its designer, Jun Yasumoto, who created this piece of design, introducing a fascinating new addition to the Colos chair collections.

We met with him to find out how the Re-al project came about and what choices guided its development.

How did the idea for the Re-al chair come about? What was the initial goal of the project?

The goal was clear from the outset: to reduce the chair’s environmental impact, both through the choice of materials and through functional and intelligent design.

Re-al was created in response to a specific need: to create a sustainable, durable chair that could adapt to many contexts.

To do this, we worked very precisely on its shape, to give it a striking yet essential presence.

Let’s talk about the material: why did you choose recycled aluminium?

We wanted Re-al to be truly sustainable, and recycled aluminium was a natural choice.

We use aluminium from post-industrial and post-consumer waste: cans and various discarded items, which find new life in a product designed to last.

We have taken care of every detail to minimise waste and maximise production efficiency, with an approach that makes the most of available resources without compromise.

What kind of performance does Re‑al offer in terms of durability and use?

Re‑al is designed to withstand the test of time and outdoor conditions.
Its structure is resistant to rain, sun, salt and cold, making it perfect even in harsh outdoor environments.

At the same time, it is lightweight, easy to move and always stable: a chair that easily adapts to every need and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

From an aesthetic point of view, how did you work on the chair’s shape?

The idea was to create a shape that would be immediately familiar, capable of evoking a recognisable style over time.

Its silhouette resonates with the collective unconscious: it is not a chair that seeks to impress, but one that blends harmoniously into its surroundings.

The lines are simple yet expressive, giving the chair a quiet and measured presence.

In what contexts do you imagine Re‑al? And who is it designed for?

Re‑al is versatile by nature.

It can find its place in a contemporary living room, on a terrace facing the sea, in a café or in an outdoor space surrounded by nature.

It is light to move, comfortable to use and visually balanced.

It adapts to different lifestyles, without compromising on aesthetics, function and sustainability.

If you had to sum up Re-al in three keywords?

I would say: resistance, functionality and sustainability.

It is designed for those looking for a lightweight chair that is easy to move, stable, sturdy, comfortable and environmentally friendly.

A simple and conscious object, created to last and adapt intelligently to contemporary contexts.
